Cassettendeck studio C 301 - to buy or not?

At the moment I can buy a Cassettendeck studio C301 for €30,-
From the outside it looks brand new and clean.

I want your advice:

Is this deck still good to combine with the 'slim line' components. Is there a big risk in technical way?
Gives it a good sound reproduction?

Can you recommend this Cassettendeck?

Thanks for you reaction,

Greetings, Joop

Hello Joop,

you can not fail with € 30 for a clean C 301 tape deck at Rotterdam.

Yes, there are known problems, esp. unforeseen tape stops due belt slips, which impede regular magnetic pulses to a controlling reed contact. Quite easy to correct.

The C301 sound reproduction is as expected: CC-quality, neither less, neither more. Enjoy the "klack-klack" of it's mechanics, the "open wheel"-look and the analog LED-illumination.

Even if the C301 is not a really slim device, regarding the combination with Braun's slim line components, under design aspects there is no alternative tape deck.

Best regards from Bremen, Simon
(C301 owner)

Thanks Simon for your advice!

I suppose that the C 301 tape deck also have the problem of the 'Entstörkondensator' that should be replaced for a new one? 8)

A week ago I got a PC 1A for the amount of €0,- :D
Also here the 'Entstörkondensator' problem?
Where can you find this part in the PC1 ?

You're right, Joop,
this could happen with the C301. It smells a lot, but smoke and stench make it trivial to find the defect component. However my own C301 still has it's original capacitor.

I regret, cannot help you with Braun's PC1, but a capacitor destroyed by 230 V will be detected without problem even by non-technicians. Start the search in the periphery of the "power on" button, if needed. However, if everything still works fine, I would't intervene - but wait.

Have a nice Sunday, Simon

Obviously I overestimated the Dutch price level for Braun devices!

Hello together,
in the C301 the capacitor is close to the on/off switch - not easy to access. The PC1 probably has two of them - one for the TC550 and one for the turntable.

Best Regards
Gerhard
